(INTERVIEW) Idol Maker: ① Vocal Trainer Kim Sung-eun

By 11:27 PM , , , ,

Note: The interview below is for a series on Idology about the people who work behind the scenes of the idol industry. The interviewer is Park Hee-ah (PHA) and the person being interviewed is a vocal trainer, Kim Sung-eun (KSE), who trained some members of BTS before their debut. Below, only the part related to BTS is translated.

# Teacher, Teacher!

"There are fewer kids than I expected who contact me after they become popular."

PHA: Not only IOI, but teams you taught before are also on a real upward trend. BTS is the representative.

KSE: In BTS, I taught Jungkook and Seokjin. A friend from KNK named Insung also learned with them during his trainee times. There was also another friend who is now rapping in a different group. That friend left, and later when Taehyung came to the company he joined in with them. After teaching these four for a while, Jungkook went to America to receive training since he dances well. Taehyung came and went from his house outside Seoul. So the two who received the most lessons were Seokjin and Insung. And between them, since Seokjin had his sights set on BTS, he was the one who came for the longest and most continuously. At the end, since Insung didn't match with the team's image, he left the company. He left without any hard feelings between them. Afterwards he kept in contact with me and since he was debuting with KNK he brought his CD to me. His debut was a little late, and since he was young he could have felt a big sense of loss as he saw how well BTS is doing. I'm thankful that he withstood that time so well.

PHA: In BTS' case, they've been having concerts all over the place.

KSE: That's right, they came as time allowed. They even do concerts overseas, that must have been an exceptionally touching moment for Seokjin himself. As you cross the stage there are moments when you can really see the eyes of the audience. He took a picture of the fans from his perspective and sent it to me. He wrote a message one day like "Teach, we did a concert somewhere in America today," and the next day "We did another concert somewhere else today." He really thinks beautifully.

  4. Oh...so she taught Jungkook and Jin first and then Taehyung. But I wonder who taught Jimin then, since he joined last and wasn't mentioned? I wonder who is teaching them now.

    1. But why would Kidoh have vocal training, she didn´t mention RM,Suga or J-hope so i dont think BigHit gave the rappers a vocal coach, maybe a singer who end up as a rapper in other group?
